It Must Be Springtime

A few days ago I reported on middle school students' having sex on a school field trip, and later updated that post with a story about students' having oral sex in class. Yesterday I wrote about the complaints when chaperones tried to ensure students stayed in their own rooms during an overnight field trip.

Now comes the latest in what's becoming all too common amongst teenagers--self-created kiddie porn that's passed around to all your friends, and then to their friends, and to their friends, and so on, and so on... This particular school is confiscating cell phones with a fury and the district will punish some of the students involved. I ask, why? Unless this was being done at school, it's a parent and a law enforcement issue. Get back to readin', 'ritin', and 'rithmetic.

Thank you for stating how much of a waste of time it is for schools to be so worried and involved in this.

A friend of mine at a local middle school took up a cell phone from a a gaggle of boys in the hallway. She happened to see what they were snorting about before they could shut it down. It was two of the girls from the volleyball team, and not a nice photo either. Frankly, if I had younger kids, I would be checking their phones daily. There is no telling what they have on them these days.

Unfortunately, the way the statutes are written, failure to report the nudie pics would place that teacher/administrator's certificate/license in jeopardy. I agree, it's a parental problem. Today, however, it's also a crime problem - a violation of child abuse laws.
