Breakfast--It's The Most Important Meal of the Day

I'm amazed how many of my high school students don't eat breakfast. It could easily be 10% or more. In the last few years I've taken to quizzing people on what they had for breakfast; it's a fun 5 minutes of class, and sometimes we get the most hilarious answers! I've noted, though, that when asked enough, students will switch from "nothing" to "a Pop-Tart". Baby steps, I guess.

Joanne (see blogroll at left) has a link to an NPR story about the importance of breakfast. Not only is it important to have breakfast, but the type of food eaten can be fairly important as well. After reading her excerpts you'll know why I refer to Pop-Tarts as baby steps.

A couple days a week I'll have Pop-Tarts with a big glass of milk. Hot Fudge Sundae Pop-Tarts. If you haven't tried them, you're missing out.

I do this a lot...I get a package of Jimmy Dean sausage, cook up 8 paddies, then bake a pack of 8 grand biscuits...assemble 8 sausage biscuits and freeze them.

Each morning I take a biscuit out of the freezer, nuke it on defrost for 5 minutes...just enough time to heat up some Pop-Tarts (I rotate...Chocolate, Blueberry and Cherry) with milk, then sausage biscuit with a little mustard on it...life is good!

Total time to cook and eat in the morning…less than 15 minutes.

I think you're probably better off eating nothing than eating two Hot Fudge Sundae Pop-Tarts! How about a nice bowl of oatmeal, or something?
