Foreign College Students Complain of Exchange Program Conditions on Gulf Coast

Reading this story just tied my stomach in knots. I'll just state here that you shouldn't crap on someone just because you have the opportunity to do so.

On the one hand, I can't really blame them for expecting a cushy position in the US, when that is what conventional wisdom says exists in every American community despite our disparity in income. On the other hand, he is whining about a situation that he can leave in two months. The rest of the Gulf Coast's resident have to stay and rebuild-it's their lives. That he failed to educate himself at to the extent of the devastation, points to a lack of preparation on his own part. One benefit from this situation is that he will see that the United States has its own internal issues to deal with and that the streets are not paved with gold. Maybe he can take that message back to those who want to come here and skip out on their work visas to become part of the vast illegal alien underground. A bird in the hand...and all that.

The thing that really struck a chord with me was being house 7 to a 2-bedroom apartment.

What I find telling is that they are shipping in foreign workers to an area that has lost many of its businesses and jobs. And that they work in fastfood makes it even more suspicious when I have seen here locally that many teens are begging for such jobs. I bet the company that set up the "exchange program" is a shell corporation getting some sort of federal funding. I'd love to see an investigation in the media.
