NOW It's Gone Too Far

Give some people an inch, they'll take a mile. So-called multiculturalism has gone a bit too far, as this story from CNN tells us:

LONDON, England (CNN) -- British prison officers who wore a St. George's Cross tie-pin have been ticked off by the jails watchdog over concerns about the symbol's racist connotations.

The pins showing the English flag -- which has often raised hackles due to its connection with the Crusades of the 11th, 12th and 13th centuries -- could be "misconstrued," Chief Inspector of Prisons Anne Owers said in a section on race in a report on a jail in the northern English city of Wakefield....

Doyle [Chris Doyle, director of the Council for the Advancement of Arab-British Understanding] added that it was now time for England to find a new flag and a patron saint who is "not associated with our bloody past and one we can all identify with."

That's right, St. George's cross on the Union Jack, that portion of the flag that represents England itself, might be considered offensive to Muslims. Change the flag, and get a new patron saint while you're at it.

If you get a chance read my post You Just Need To Walk Away, for some more ludicrous discussions (don't miss the Comment section, it's almost as good as the post if not better), on the subject of whether the word 'articulate'is racist.

By the way I have answered your perceptive comment on St.Augustine!! See you, or should I say 'read you' again soon, I hope.

It *was* ludicrous. Complimenting people is now racist/sexist/somethingist? Sad.

Maybe a flag with St. George's Cross and a green crescent and green palm tree in the center?

Don't they have more important issues to deal with ? I don't hear the Scots clammoring for the removal of their portion of the Union Jack......
